The Eastern Regional Coordinating Council and the Regional Health Directorate organised a health walk and screening exercise under the auspices of Divine Mother and Child Foundation DMAC and Joy Industries for Workers in the New Juaben Municipality.

It was on the theme ‘Healthy Lifestyle, Healthy Employee Higher Productivity’.
The walk started from Prisons Park through the principal streets of Koforidua, the Eastern Regional capital to Galloway traffic and ended at Regional Coordinating Council.

The Eastern Regional Minister, Antwi Boasiako Sekyere, said a healthy nation they say is a wealthy nation ‘hence the need to embark on such exercise frequently and called for more keep fit clubs in the region.

The Regional Administrator of Ghana Health Service, Michael Asare Bediako, said regular exercise is vital but added that keeping our surroundings clean is more prudent since exercising our body cannot prevent communicable diseases in our society.

The Head of DMAC Foundations, Edmund Duodu, said, the screening of hepatitis B, Hypertension, Body Mass Index(BMI), HIV and others which took place at the Regional Coordinating Council is part of their social responsibility and so far has screened 15 thousand people in the region and intends to do more.He called on the public to participate in the exercise.

The Regional Police Commander, DCOP Akuriba Yaagy, said, his outfit will organise such exercise every two weeks in the municipality to share experience in most areas and be abreast of what transpires in most neighbourhood in terms of security.
